16 Days of Activism Instagram Live Chats

From November 25 to December 10 we call on everyone to take action to end gender-based violence.

DWS is hosting a series of chats on Instagram Live:

Lies We’re Taught About Stalking with Julie S. Lalonde

Friday, December 4th, 1pm YST/3pm EST

From the Netflix show 'You' to the stereotypes of a creepy man in a trench coat, the lies we’re taught about stalking keep us from understanding the problem and recognizing when a friend needs help. Join Julie and Crickett - friends, activists, prevention educators, and often mistaken for each other – for a chat about the current realities of criminal harassment as well as tips for preventing stalking from happening in the first place. Speaking from professional AND personal experience, they will give participants the tools to spot stalking behaviours when they start so that we can better look out for each other.

Julie S. Lalonde (@JulieSLalonde) is a public educator, activist, and creator of Outside of the Shadows (@OutsideOfTheShadowsProject), a project to end criminal harassment in Canada.

Kinship as Creative Action with Danielle Boissoneau

Sunday, December 6th, 1pm YST/3pm EST

Trauma and traumatic events can sever our ability to feel safe building relationships. How can kinship, especially with land, water and non human life, inform the spaces in which we grow and thrive? This conversation will meander between struggle as a tool, everyday actions folks can take and how protecting the land and water through kinship can be a process for reconnection and reclamation.

Danielle Boissoneau (@onedeelikeme) is Anishnaabe kwe, writer, public speaker, and working towards food sovereignty and liberation for Indigenous peoples.

Ending Fatphobia to End Violence with Kira-Lynn Ferderber

Tuesday, December 8th, 1pm YST/3pm EST

We live in a culture of violence against women, and diet culture helps this violence flourish. Too many forces are telling us to be less, be smaller, and to make sure everything we do is about pleasing men, and being under control. Come learn concrete ways you can change this for those around you, and bring questions!

Kira-Lynn Ferderber is a feminist rapper and prevention educator with Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center Sarasota (@sparcc_sarasota).
