Holiday Hamper Update
Dawson Women’s Shelter (DWS) and Dawson Community Chapel (DCC) have some news to share about the upcoming changes to the Holiday Hamper program.
Starting this year, DCC will be taking over this well loved and much needed program. DWS is excited to provide support in the transition year.
The program will look different, with not only a new organizer, but also a new name and the logistics will look different as well. Fundamentally, providing support and care to Dawson community members during the stressful holiday season, will look the same.
For decades, DWS has offered Holiday Hampers, last year providing nearly 75 boxes of food and toiletries to families and individuals needing a little something extra. This is a welcome transition as it allows DCC to expand on their incredible work and connection at their weekly foodbank. It also allows DWS to focus not only on our work of providing immediate support to survivors of gender-based violence, but also on planning and facilitating education and workshops to prevent abuse.
Massive mähsi cho to all the businesses and individuals who have donated in years past. There has been a tremendous amount of community support for the Holiday Hamper program.
DCC is accepting food and monetary donations: connect with them online or contact them by email - dawsonfoodbnk@hotmail.com - or phone - 867-993-5122. Past donors can expect a letter about donation opportunities.
Folks can support DWS’ programs (24 Hour Support Line, Emergency Shelter, Drop-In, and Prevention Education) by donating here.
Keep an eye on social media and local bulletin boards for information on how to take part in the new program.
Families with children under fourteen who need help with presents and toys are encouraged to connect with the Share the Spirit campaign organized by the Whitehorse Firefighters Charitable Society.
Never miss a post. Keep in touch with DWS…
